Engadget.com revealed on the 31st that they have been invited to an “Apple ‘product presentation for Mac’ at Apple Town Hall in Cupertino next week. The event gets started on the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, and while we weren’t promised an appearance by El Jobso, Apple was, shockingly enough, very open and clear about the fact that this is going to be a press gathering for Mac products (and Mac products only)”.

Looks like Apple will be updating the Mac before the iPod. So I was wrong about the order, but I was right saying that August 7th will be all about the Mac. Will everything else I said about the brushed aluminum iMacs be true also?

This morning the US/Canada Apple store was down (apple.com/store). It came right back up with no differences. Everything seems yo be the same. Perhaps it was just some normal maintenance, or maybe….

Notice that there is a small gap in between the two rows of products in the center of the page.

Could this be a minor mistake as they altered the code to allow a third row of products? The new updates I predicted in my last post?

07302007-1244pm-2.png07302007-1244pm.pngWhen Apple moved to the new version of their site at the announcement of the iPhone, all pages were updated for the new style- except the store. It still has plain gray boxes while other pages, such as the “Mac” page to the right, have a nice gradient and larger size.

Could all these things be signs that Apple is preparing to update the store? Maybe, say, for an August 7th product transition?

Jul 27

On the 25th, Apple mentioned “product transition” in a conference call. The main two theories are that this means: A) 6th-gen iPods B) New iMacs.

Almost unanimously, the analysts are predicting a product shakeup, specifically in the iPod family. Ars says multitouch is coming, Forbes suggests that Apple tipped its hand to upcoming product changes, and Apple Insider has Ben Reitzes, who was the first analyst to question the low guidance, suggesting that an iMac redesign or “ultra-portable” may be in the works.
But the majority of analysts say it’s the iPod that Apple will focus on. The iPod has been waiting in the wings, watching the iPhone and OS X get all kinds of pretty updates, and call it what you want– the halo effect or trickle down– the iPod is ready for a refresh. ThinkSecret comes right out and says it: we’ll see a 6G iPod as early as the first half of August.

But personally, I think this is going to be much, much more. Continue reading »

Flashbag: Inflatable Flash Drive

Russian designer Dima Komissarov has an idea of making an inflatable flash drive which would get larger depending on how many files you have stored in it. Whenever a file is placed into the flash drive the micro pump will blow up the bag around it. Of course, When the flash drive is full it will not “Blow-up” as in “Explode” it will just get filled up to the point where it looks like it’s going to pop, but then it will display an error message on your PC. I wonder if when it’s completely empty if it will deflate all the way, or if it will deflate just a little bit making the flash drive look like a normal rectangular box like shown in the picture? When this product is released I will definitely get one just to mess around with the inflation and deflation of it.

newdollar.png

The US mint has decided to once again try a $1 coin. 4 new coins, each with a different president, will be released every year.
I’m not too sure this’ll will work, or that it’s even a good idea, but blogger “MG Siegler” made a good point:

[The US Mint] could work with the soda manufacturers to set the price of a vending machine pop to $1. Currently it seems like vending machine drinks range anywhere in price from 50 cents to $1.50…why not split the difference and make them all $1? Imagine how simple it would be if you didn’t need to fumble around in your pocket for change to buy a pop in the machine, or better still, if you didn’t have to keep feeding those awful dollar-bill readers that just won’t accept your crumpled paper money. All you would need to do is insert your dollar coin and out comes the drink.

wii-weights.jpg

Some people have already started using their Nintendo Wii to help loose weight, but this is taking it to the next level. These Wii Weights would weigh only 1-4 pounds, but could really turn a few minutes of Wii Boxing into an extreme workout. Although, this is just a concept, so it may never hit stores.

2-9-07-clippy_rip.jpgMicrosoft’s office assistant has been “left behind” in Windows Office 2007. Office’s group program manager has made it clear to us that the clip is dead. It was fading from the offices ever since 2003 where it was turned off by default. So we say good-bye to Clippy, the best office assistant ever.

Ipod Ban

To the people of New York, the government is ready to get involved and save you from yourselves. Senator Carl Kruger is supposedly set to introduce legislation that would restrict the use of MP3 players, cellphones, and any electronic device while crossing the street in New York City. The supposed ban follows two recent pedestrian deaths in Kruger’s district where one is said to be the result of the victim “listening to his iPod.” We wonder, if police can’t enforce jaywalking laws in NYC, how could they possibly enforce this? Man, this has gotta stink for all the kids walking to school who wanna listen to music or talk on their cellphone…

cell-watch.jpg
Over at SMS Technology, they have developed the “Mobile Watch”. Basiclly, it’s a cell phone built into a watch, something you would expect out of a James Bond movie. It has everything a regular cell phone would have on your wrist. Not sure how you talk in to it but i imagine there is a headset of some sorts.

OpenMoko Phone

OpenMoko’s FIC Neo1973 is the world’s first Linux powered and open-source phone. It features a 2.8-inch touchscreen monitor, Samsung s3c2410 SoC, a Global Locater AGPS chip, 128 MB SDRAM, 64 MB NAND Flash memory, and a microSD card drive. Apple might have some competition with this phone coming out in One Month for only $350 dollars much cheaper than the iPhone.
