Whoa, weird. I’ve never heard of anyone playing the guitar like that, but he’s pretty good.
I wish I could do that.

Akismet is a spam blocking service developed by the same people who made wordpress. This is a great service, and I’ve actually been using it on this blog to help. So far it’s stopped 165 spam comments on just my blog with with 0 errors. It hasn’t accidentally stopped a single legit comment yet but has caught every real spam one.It really is a great service.
Early today the service reached a major milestone: 1 Billion spam Comments blocked. Sweet. You can go here to check out their live stats.

Just look at this ruggedized, semi-portable PC with three-up display from ACME. It’s only an early prototype but it would look like those bolted on LCDs will likely gain some folding action before this in-the-field PC ever hits production. No, it’s not waterproof or dustproof — it does, however, feature a reinforced aluminum frame.

It been commonly assumed that if you somehow dig a hole deep enough into the earth and go out the other side you’d end up in China. But as Make Magazine’s Blog shows us, that’s incorrect. You would actually end up in the middle of the Indian Ocean, no matter which of the 48 main states you start in. To end up in China, Make calculates, you’d have to start in Argentina.
That is, of course, going straight through the core of the earth. It would be much more reasonable to go at an angle. If you could find the right one, you could probably get to China, assuming it’s even possible to dig that deep without destroying everything aboveground. Then maybe it could be possible.. maybe.

This guy built his own balancing scooter, much like a Segway or that weird Sony patent from a while ago. This is amazing. You just have to lean and shift your weight to steer it like a snowboard. I wish I had one.

California Fitness, a Hong Kong based health club, has decided to attach generators to all their machines. So every time someone uses a treadmill, cycling machine, or cross-training machine, their energy will power the building’s light fixtures. According to their estimates, one person running on a treadmill for 1 hour per day will produce 18.2 kilowatts and prevent 4,380 liters of C02 from being emitted per year. That’s a lot of energy. I think this is great- it burns calories and get us energy, all without harming the environment.
I actually think this is a good idea. Those animations are incredibly cheesy, and I’d rather use a normal keyboard with IM on my laptop, but this is still pretty cool. It sounds like Second Life, except it’s free to PS3 owners. Good job, Sony… this time.
Because I’m such a Nintendo fanboy, I just have to say this: Nintendo should make some sort of online community like this. They already have Miis, so this would be the next logical step. Just an idea…

This is a pretty fun game. You start out with some gold to buy you defenses, then arrange them into a maze. Once you spend all your gold you press start and “creeps”, little dot-men, start coming from one side. The object of the game is to stop them from reaching the other side. Each time one does you loose a life, and when all your lives are gone- game over. Each time you kill a creep you get more gold, which you use to fortify and upgrade your maze. But as you advance levels the creeps get harder to kill. The first time I played I got to level 30 with a score of 30 on easy mode (yeah, easy mode…)
An excellently executed lightsaber battle made by a few fans. The Youtube version is a little messed up, so you should check out the HD version at http://stage6.divx.com/content/show/1137289. That one take forever to load, though.
This is really an amazing video. The lightsabers are perfectly animated, cutting through metal and flesh seamlessly, they even emit a faint glow that is reflected on the characters’ faces. Beautiful. Painfully long credits, though…
Scientists in China have experimented with brain-motor skill manipulation to force the pigeons to comply with thier commands. Electrodes were planted into the brain of these pigeons to control their movement (up, down, left right) during flight. Not sure how they control them but kinda creepy in a way.
