By special request, here is a quick article about Kingdom Hearts 3:

“Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is being remade for the PlayStation 2, dubbed Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories. The remake includes polygonal 3D battles and worlds using the same level of graphics as Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II, as well as voice acting, while gameplay will stay exclusively the same. But, the voice acting will be only in the hallways between the world floors. So the Disney worlds will not have voice-acting. The remake also includes new cutscenes that were not in the original game and the Reaction Command from Kingdom Hearts II. It also includes the battle with Organization member Zexion as a playable battle. (It was only a cutscene the GBA release) It will be released as the second disc of Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ in Japan. The game will be released on March 29, 2007 in Japan.[1] Several independent sources state that a release in North America will occur in Fall 2007[4], with no confirmation from Square Enix.”

Internet gaming has evolved from a passtime to a way of life. An entire culture now thrives online in games like Half-Life and World of Warcraft. These games are great because they’re fun to play, not just because of the challenge of the game, but also because of the social community they create. Anyone who says the internet is killing social life is mistaken.
Gamers have adopted a tendency to abbreviate things, or replace letters with n3mbers. Some of it is just stupid 10 year olds trying to be “cool” and in the process creating 1mp0s18l3 2 r3ad w3rd5, but the origin of many internet slang terms is actually a complex, yet interesting, phenomenon.
Internet slang began to be called “leetspeak”, as in “elite-speak”, or just leet as it is commonly called. Leet is generally the same as a real English word, but with numbers or abbreviations. “Leet”, itself is often typed 133t. Some other examples are: w00t (we own the other team), hakxorz (hackers), n00bs (newbies or simply inferior players), and even LOL or lq2m (laughing quietly to myself).
I’d like to explain what is, in my opinion, the most commonly misused word: “pwn”. It’s impossible to tell for sure, but the origin of this word is rumored to be the game Warcraft. The legend explains that Continue reading »

360cooler.jpg

The “Gamexpert Cooler King” will both cool your Xbox 360 and allow you to connect it to “up to 4 media players at the same time”. While I’m not sure exactly how the latter could be useful, the built in 4 port USB hub could be useful. And while there have been problems with other 360 coolers, this one seems to work well enough, or so I’ve heard. It’s available here for 17.99 euros, or about 23.24 US dollars.

Today, January 26th, Nintendo launched the Wii News Channel. Contrary to many rumors, this is actually NOT a paid service. It’s free. Here’s a video I made of a few of the features:

It’s pretty awesome. You can either just browse a collection of news clips, or, even better, see a weather-channel style globe that you can spin around in with the Wii-mote and click floating pics for news stories. And these aren’t little paragraphs, they’re full articles from popular newspapers like The Washington Post and The New York Times. And when you click on one of the floating pictures an article pops up and minimizes the map to the side. So as you read a story on the left the location of its source is on the right and pictures are embedded in the article. Another great feature is the slide show, which scrolls through the globe and displays random news headlines on your screen. It’s really great, but a hard to describe. So just watch the video.

Added by Branman10:
The Wii news channel launched today and you can now check recent news right on your internet connected Wii. You can check National News, International News, Sports, Arts/Entertainment, Business, Health/Science, and Technology headlines with the press of a button. You can also watch a slide show that goes through all of the news articles, and see a full globe to see were things are happening right now. Its really cool and now all of the Wii channels are launched! GO WII!!!!

Two people have taken a Wii remote and turned it into a interface for a large robot arm! They hooked up a tennis racket and a Sword to the thing and tested it out!

What’s next from Sony you may ask. Well, the brains over at their labs or wherever they work have come up with the idea of turning your psp into a gps device. You just put this little adapter on your psp and just like that, you’ve got gps. I think it’s pretty cool!

What are the top 3 games everyone is waiting for? For each of the 3 next-gen systems I gave 1 game that’s the most anticipated. Here we go:

Halo 3

Xbox 360: Halo 3
Halo and Halo 2 were two of the greatest games in gaming history. So why not Halo 3?

Super Smash Bros.

Wii: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The Super Smash Bros. series have both been classics. With the new type of controllers the Wii has, this game looks amazing.

PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Though I don’t have a PS3, this games looks like it will have a different type of gameplay with some of the best graphics on the console to date.

There are so many games to chose from and it’s hard to narrow it down to only 1 for each system! Leave a comment with your top 3 anticipated games if you feel otherwise. Thanks!

logs.jpg

Recycling saves paper, and paper is made from trees. So saving paper save a tree, right? Wrong. It seems logical at first, but saving paper doesn’t necessarily save trees. The paper we all use every day actually goes though a complex logging process, in which, usually, only select trees are cut and later replaced to have minimal environmental impact. Actual damage from legal logging is actually less you think. It’s a fact: the rainforest is shrinking rapidly. But the paper we use doesn’t come from the rainforest. Illegal and expensive logging will have high prices, reserved for only those willing to pay. No one would waste highly valuable wood on paper. That’s crazy. The paper we use everyday comes from legally cut trees. The actual logging process is incredible complex and I won’t go through it in detail but here’s an incredibly basic overview:
Only select trees are cut. Ones that are not fully developed or and and deeply rooted are spared. Machines will go through a forest and cut down only these trees. Then a computer will measure the tree and decide the best way to separate its while still utilizing the most wood. The cut pieces are transported back to a factory where the timber is transformed to the final product, be it paper, doors, or tables.

Logging causes less environmental damage then many other businesses. There are millions of examples:

  • “As an example, Mary M. Berlik, David B. Kittredge and David R. Foster of Harvard University cite that a house built out of steel, plastic and concrete has a higher life cycle assessment or life-cycle cost and requires more energy and non-renewable resources to produce than a house built with wood products.” (From Wikipedia)
  • Many things we use today will never degrade, especially plastic. If an animal eats a piece of plastic it will die. Then the animal will degrade and leave the plastic behind so it can be eaten by another animal.
  • Currently discarded computers are either carelessly piled in landfills or sold to third world countries to be ripped apart and sold as junk. Leftover pieces can poison resources and disrupt wildlife.
  • As these and many more reasons illustrate, other industries can actually have a greater impact on the environment than logging.

But don’t get me wrong, paper is important. We should always be conscience and use both sides if possible. And, of course, RECYCLE. But don’t go crazy about it.
Sometimes people just don’t think. So the next time you hear someone tell you to “save a tree” and write in the margins of a piece of paper instead of throwing it in the recycling bin show them this.
